Posted on

Dry, cracked feet aren't exactly the look you want during the summer when you're trying to sport those beautiful sandals. Your feet can get rough for a number of reasons including from being on your feet a lot, not moisturizing your feet or wearing shoes that are rough on your feet. Give your feet the proper care to get rid of those rough and cracked heels. Read on for tips on how to get this done so you can wear sandals without feeling self-conscious about your feet.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Foot bath (or a bathtub)
  • Body wash
  • Pumice stone
  • Thick moisturizer
  • Socks
  • Coconut oil

Instructions:

*It's best to do this before bedtime so feet can stay moisturized all night long.

  1. To start, soak your feet in a foot bath filled with warm water and a few drops of body wash. If you don't have a foot bath a bathtub with a few inches of water in it will work too.
  2. Soak your feet in the foot bath for at least 10 minutes. Then take one foot out at a time to gently scrub your feet with a pumice stone. If your feet are really cracked and dry you can add a small amount of moisturizer to the pumice stone to aid in removing the dry skin.
  3. After scrubbing your feet rinse your feet in the foot bath, then pat your feet dry with a clean towel.
  4. Use a thick moisturizer and rub it into your feet making sure to get your heels really well.
  5. Put on socks to keep your feet moisturized. Repeat this every day for softer feet.
  6. Once per week use coconut oil on your feet to keep your feet and heels moisturized.

To help prevent rough, cracked heels slough off dead skin at least once per week and moisturize them daily. Wear comfortable shoes that support your entire foot. Keep your feet dry and clean to prevent athlete's foot which can be a cause of rough and cracked skin.

Clean your feet after working out or sweating and change socks throughout the day if you have really sweaty feet. Wear shower shoes when in public showers such as at the gym or whenever in the locker room.

Rough, cracked feet can make you feel self-conscious especially during summer when you want to wear sandals or go barefoot at the beach or the pool. If using a pumice stone, soaking your feet and using moisturizer just isn't working make sure to see the podiatrist for help clearing up your feet.
